How do you fix broken hinges in your Frigidaire Electrolux microwave?

Electrical problems are not the only cause of all microwave issues. Sometimes, individual physical components become damaged or begin to crack. Other times, small pieces of the exterior casing, the handle, or the door start to wiggle away from the clasps and hinges that hold it in place. You can still fix your microwave's mechanical parts if you feel uncomfortable modifying or repairing its electrical components.

Fixing Hinges that Are Sagging on a Frigidaire/Electrolux Microwave

Inspect the hinges and look for broken or damaged pieces. A sagging microwave is often caused by the welding on the hinges breaking. Electrolux's microwaves feature two hinges for the door. One is in the upper corner, while the other is in the lower corner. The welding of just one hinge may take time to notice. The additional stress, particularly if the top-hinged welding breaks first, means the second-hinged welding will follow soon. What is your procedure for repairing the broken welding of your microwave door hinges? (Make sure the microwave is removed and unplugged from any source of power) Remove the plastic casing around the hinge using a blunt knife or a flathead screwdriver. Use this method on both hinges. After releasing the door, remove it by lifting it off the latches. It's easy to reach the hinges this way. If you touch each hinge, you will see that it wiggles freely in the space, and the weld pops up when you tug on it. You can tighten a hinge by using a pop rivet gun to insert a metal rivet in the opening above the hinge. This will secure the hinge so that it cannot be moved and can hold weight better. Repeat this procedure on both hinges. Swing the door of the microwave to make sure it is not sagging. The hinges and the door should be securely in place.
